Resumo
Neste trabalho, é apresentada uma introdução às radiações, suas interações com a matéria, ionização, suas consequências e seus benefícios para a humanidade e, principalmente seu envolvimento com a ciência dos materiais. Serão apresentadas as características dos materiais empregados nas instalações nucleares para obtenção da energia elétrica que são afetados e modificadas pela irradiação nuclear. Entre outros, este trabalho objetiva contribuir para que futuramente possam ser apresentados novos projetos nesta área tão ampla e importante, mas pouco conhecida.
In this work, an introduction to radiation, its interactions with matter, ionization, its consequences and its benefits for humanity, and especially its involvement with the science of materials, is presented. It will be presented the characteristics of the materials used in the nuclear installations to obtain the electric energy that are affected and modified by nuclear irradiation. Among others, this work aims to contribute to the future presentation of new projects in this area as large and important, but little known.
