Resumo

Malhas de peneira vibratória utilizadas na classificação de pelotas queimadas de minério de ferro apresentaram forte desgaste superficial, alargando excessivamente as aberturas da rede metálica. A dureza do aço empregado estava muito abaixo da das partículas de minério de ferro. O espaçamento entre as partículas de carbonetos da microestrutura do aço era suficientemente grande para permitir que as partículas de minério sulcassem e riscassem a matriz austenitica dúctil. Comparando seu desempenho com o de malhas revestidas com metal duro, concluiu-se que o uso de um metal de base com maior dureza, com precipitados finamente dispersos na matriz, e/ou um recobrimento adequado podem solucionar os problemas em serviço.

 

Vibratory sieve separators employed in sintered iron ore pellet classification presented severe surface wear, with excessive widening of the sieve gaps. Hardness of the employed stainless steel was well below of the typical hardness values of iron ores. It was concluded that carbide interparticles spacing within the matrix was large enough to allow scratching and plowing of the austenite matrix by the iron ore particles. Comparing the in-service performance of the stainless steel sieves with hard metal coated sieves, it was concluded that the use of a harder base material, with finely dispersed precipitates in the matrix, and/or employing an adequate coating may solve the problem.
