Resumo

Neste trabalho será apresentado um estudo de falha de um regenerador utilizado em unidade de craqueamento catalítico de petróleo. O regenerador é estruturado por tirantes que são isolados do contato com os gases do processo por selantes. Os tirantes romperam ocasionando o colapso. As análises realizadas foram conduzidas para identificar os motivos que levaram este componente a falhar. Para isto, utilizou-se a metodologia padrão para análise de falha. O resultado da investigação mostrou que a falha ocorreu por processo de fadiga dos tirantes, que tiveram sua microestrutura alterada, com formação de carbonetos grosseiros em contornos de grão e redução de dureza. As alterações microestruturais observadas devem-se ao fato destes componentes estarem em contato com altas temperaturas por um período suficiente para as transformações.

 

This work presents the results of a failure analysis of a regenerator used in a catalytic cracking unit. The regenerator was fabricated with eight trusses, that were isolated from the process gases by several sealings. The collapse occurred due to the failure of some of the trusses. A failure analysis was conducted to determinate the reasons of the failure. The investigation concluded that the failure occurred by fatigue facilitated by the metallurgical degradation of the material. The high temperature environment conditions that the component was exposed induced coarse carbides formation at grain boundaries and a decrease in hardness which facilitated the fatigue crack initiation.
