Resumo

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo investigar as possíveis causas de falha ocorrida em uma roda da mesa de correia oscilatória que apresentou desgaste excessivo prematuramente em uma região bem localizada da pista de rolamento. O trabalho seguiu a metodologia usual empregada em analise de falhas, incluindo análises visuais do componente, macrodureza Rockwell B, microdureza Vickers e microscopia óptica. A análise micrográfica e do perfil de microdureza permitiram constatar que a roda apresentou uma faixa da pista de rolamento na qual a têmpera superficial foi deficiente, resultando em uma região localizada de baixa dureza. Como conseqüência, o material falhou pelo mecanismo de fadiga por contato, havendo perda de massa localizada e acentuada pela nucleação e propagação de trincas subsuperficiais.

 

The present work aimed to investigate the possible causes of failure occurred in a oscillating belt table wheel that showed excessive wear in a localized region of the rolling track. The work followed the usual methodology employed in failure analysis, including visual analysis of the component, Rockwell B macrohardness, Vickers microhardness and optical microscopy. From the micrographic analysis and microhardness profile, it was apparent that the wheel had a portion of the rolling track on which the quenching surface was deficient, resulting in a localized region of low hardness. As a result, the material failed by contact fatigue mechanism, with localized mass loss caused by the nucleation and propagations of subsurface cracks.
