Resumo

Este trabalho teve por objetivo investigar as possíveis causas de falha do elo da sapata 4PA5. O trabalho seguiu a metodologia usual empregada em analise de falhas, consistindo de análises visuais do componente, macrodureza Rockwell B, microscopia óptica, ensaios de impacto Charpy e de tração. A trinca nucleou a partir da ZTA da solda, propagando-se de maneira catastrófica em direção ao centro do elo durante a operação do equipamento. Dentre os fatores que atuaram sinergisticamente para a falha, destacam-se: teor elevado de carbono que aumentou a temperabilidade da liga propiciando a formação de martensita de alta dureza na ZTA. Esta por sua vez, favoreceu o fenômeno de fragilização por hidrogênio e uma redução da tenacidade à fratura do material facilitando a propagação catastrófica. O excesso de alumínio residual favoreceu a precipitação de nitretos de alumínio e, conseqüentemente, aumento de fragilização do material base.

 

This work aimed to investigate the possible causes of failure occurred in a 4PA5 bedplate. The work followed the usual methodology employed in failure analysis, including visual analysis of the component, Rockwell B macrohardness, optical microscopy, Charpy impact and tensile tests. Cracks initiated from the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and catastrophically propagated towards the center of the part during operation of the equipment. Among the factors that acted synergistically to cause the failure, emphasis is placed on the high carbon content which increased the hardenability of the alloy providing the martensite formation in the HAZ, favoring the phenomenon of hydrogen embrittlement and a reduction of the fracture toughness of the material. Excessive aluminum content favored the precipitation of aluminum nitride and, consequently, increase in the fragility of the base material.
