Resumo

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo a análise de falha em um segmento de mandril de bobinadeira de um laminador de tiras a quente. A análise de falha compreendeu as seguintes etapas: caracterização do problema, ensaios não- destrutivos, análise química, análise microestrutural, ensaio de dureza e análise fratográfica. Chegou-se à conclusão que o aço utilizado sofreu fadiga térmica durante a operação do equipamento.

 

This paper presents a failure analysis methodology to characterize a failure (root causes) of a mandrel segment used in a hot strip mill. The basic steps adopted were: background data about the performance of the equipment, visual examination of the failure area to determine the origin of the failure, non-destructive tests, chemical analysis of the mandrel fractured and comparison with standards, metallographic examination to evaluate microstructural features, microhardness testing to identify the presence of residual stresses, and fractographic examination to determine the failure mode. The mandrel failed by thermal fatigue.
