This study evaluated the influence of the addition of an inorganic compound radiopacifier on the properties of the white Portland cement, in order to facilitate its use as cement endodontic, similar to the MTA. First, Portland White cement was characterized by X- ray diffraction; the results show that the sample had similar composition the MTA, with the exception of bismuth in the composition of the material. Bismuth, according to literature, is the radiopacifier agent present in the sealer in the MTA base. Afterwards, an inorganic compound was selected due its potential radiopacifier for further study, which is the carbonate Bismuth (Bi2(CO3)). In this study the following properties were evaluated; Initial setting time, dimensional compression, solubility and diametrical alteration, all following tests according to ISO 6878: 2001. To achieve these tests, samples containing 15% bismuth carbonate in its composition. Comparing the results obtained in this study, it was proved, according to literature, that white Portland cement plus 15 % bismuth carbonate has properties similar to the MTA, suggesting the feasibility of its use as less costly alternative to other marketed materials.
