EVALUATION OF THE CAPACITY OF SAE J2334/MANUAL OPERATION TEST TO DISTINGUISH THE CORROSION RESISTENCE OF ZINC AND ZINC-IRON ALLOY STEELS PHOSPHATIZED AND PAINTED

Resumo

A capacidade corrosão de sistemas de pintura (aço, pré-tratamento e pintura) é discutida neste trabalho. Para tanto, avaliou-se a resistência à corrosão de aços ultrabaixo carbono livres de átomos intersticiais, eletrogalvanizado e galvanizados a quente com esquema de pintura automobilístico. Como resultado, verificou-se que foram necessários três testes SAE J2334/Modo manual completos (4320h ou 6 meses) para se obter dados mensuráveis e confiáveis; enquanto com o teste GM 9540P:1997 apenas um teste completo (1920h ou 2,6 meses). Para tornar o teste SAE J2334/Modo manual mais rápido é preciso atuar isoladamente ou em conjunto, na concentração dos agentes corrosivos, no tempo de pulverização de sua solução ou no período de superfície úmida dos corpos-de-prova expostos no teste. Além de mais rápido, é preciso que o teste acelerado de corrosão seja também confiável.

 

The capacity of the SAE J2334:2003/Manual operation test to distinguish the corrosion resistance of coating systems (steel, pre-treatment and painting) is discussed in this paper. Ultra-low carbon Interstitial free steels (ULC-IF), electrogalvanized, zinc and zinc-iron alloy hot-dip galvanized, phosphated and painted in the automotive industry, were evaluated in this work through two accelerated cyclic corrosion tests, SAE J2334/Manual operation and GM 9540P:1997. As a result, it was found that using the test SAE J2334/Manual operation took three completed tests (4320h or 6 months) to achieve measurable and reliable data, as with the test GM 9540P it took only one complete test (1920h or 2 to 3 months). To get the test SAE J2334/Manual operation's results quicker it is necessary to act alone or together on the concentration of corrosive agents and/or the time of exposure to salt solution and humidity conditions of the specimens exposed in the test. Besides being faster, it is also necessary that the accelerated corrosion test is reliable.
