Resumo

Este trabalho refere-se à caracterização tecnológica de um bloco cerâmico fabricado utilizando os minerais barita e argila provenientes de ocorrências localizadas nos municípios do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte, e que possam ser utilizados para ambientes que necessitem de isolamento contra radiação-X. Primeiramente são estudadas as propriedades físicas e químicas dos minerais de partida, bem como é apresentada a metodologia experimental utilizada para a elaboração de um bloco cerâmico maciço para alvenaria de vedação, onde foram preparadas dez amostras na proporção 1:1, compactadas em matriz retangular, sinterizados a uma temperatura de 1.200

 

This work refers to the technology characterization of a ceramic block manufactured using the minerals and clay from barite occurrences located in the municipalities of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and that can be used for environments that require insulation against radiation-X. First are studied the physical and chemical properties of minerals of departure, and it shows the experimental methodology used for the preparation of a ceramic block massive masonry for the sealing, where ten samples were prepared in the 1:1 ratio, compacted into the results rectangular matrix, sintered at a temperature of 1.200 oC. are presented according to the parameters of linear shrinkage, water absorption, Porosity and resistance to bending in three points, where these demonstrated that the addition of barite in the manufacture of ceramic blocks to massive fence, causing a small decrease in the resistance of product, but in general have satisfactory results and with good indicators of the quality of the final product ceramic.
