Resumo

Fibras extraídas do caule da bananeira estão sendo estudadas como um potencial reforço para compósitos poliméricos devido à sua relativa resistência mecânica. Recentemente, foram conduzidos ensaios de tração para caracterização das propriedades mecânicas destas fibras. Entretanto, o efeito da temperatura no comportamento destas fibras ainda não foi investigado. Portanto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma análise térmica em fibras de bananeira. A análise foi conduzida pela técnica termogravimétrica, TG, obtendo-se também a derivada DTG, em um intervalo de temperatura de 25 a 800°C. Verificou-se que as fibras de bananeira apresentam acentuada degradação a partir de 150°C, mostrando picos de DTG referentes à perda de massa da fibra associados não só à liberação de umidade, mas também à decomposição da celulose, hemicelulose e lignina.

 

Fibers extracted from the stem of the banana plant have been studied as a potential reinforcement of polymer composites due to their relative tensile strength. Recently, tensile tests have been conducted to characterize the mechanical properties of this type of lignocellulosic fibers. However, the effect of increasing temperature on the behavior of these fibers has not yet been investigated. Therefore, the objective of this work was to perform a thermal analysis on banana fibers. The analysis has been conducted by thermogravimetric, TG, technique and its derivative, DTG, obtained in a temperature interval from 25 to 800°C. It was found that the banana fibers present accentuated degradation, starting from 200°C, showing peaks related to the weight loss due not only to the release of moisture but also to the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin decomposition.
