Resumo

Utiliza-se surfatantes como uma alternativa diante de algum distúrbio que impacte o desempenho da filtragem. Buscou-se neste trabalho verificar os benefícios do uso de surfatantes na formação e desaguamento das tortas de minério de ferro durante o processo de filtragem. O estudo também verificou os impactos da presença de surfatante no pellet feed durante a etapa do pelotamento. Observou-se por testes de folha que vários reagentes apresentaram redução significativa da umidade da torta, mantendo-se a mesma produtividade da filtragem comparada ao teste padrão (sem a adição de surfatante). A diminuição das forças capilares, ocasionada pela redução na tensão superficial da água pela presença de surfatante, afetou a taxa de crescimento das pelotas durante o pelotamento.

 

The chemical reagents are very important in the dewatering of pulps that contain fine particles. The objective of this work was to study the benefits of using surfactants in dewatering and formation of pellet feed cakes during filtration. The influence of surfactants on green pellet formation has also been evaluated. Firstly, plenty of samples from different suppliers were tested by qualitative analysis in order to evaluate foam development over iron ore sludge. Only one supplier was disqualified at this stage. The others were also tested by running a leaf test. It has been noticed that all samples were able to significantly reduce the cake moisture, keeping the same productivity level in comparison with the standard test (without surfactant addition). The best surfactants were used so as to evaluate their influence on the pelletizing. The surface tension reduction mechanism caused by surfactant addition was responsible to some extent for the pellet quality drop, both growing rate and strength.
