Three schemes of incorporating sawdust in PP/EPDM/talc have been investigated regarding their effect on composite mechanical and thermal properties. The schemes were: tumble premixing of all components with subsequent injection molding; separate feeding of fiber, polymer matrix, and compatibilizer in a co-rotating twin screw extruder and subsequent injection molding; tumble premixing of all components, joint feeding in co-rotating twin screw extruder with subsequent injection molding. Fiber incorporation increased heat deflection temperature (HDT), tensile and flexural strength, Young's modulus and decreased impact strength and strain at break in relation to the matrix. At constant fiber content, joint feeding showed the highest values of tensile and flexural strength, Young's modulus, and HDT, and lowest impact resistance. The schemes with two feeders showed highest strain at break and impact strength. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed less fiber incorporation for the scheme with two feeders in relation to the other methods. SEM revealed no significant differences in adhesion between fiber and matrix, regarding incorporation scheme.
