Resumo

O desenvolvimento de novos materiais, envolvendo compósitos poliméricos, influencia os mais variados campos da ciência, tanto do ponto de vista científico quanto tecnológico. Neste trabalho será apresentado um estudo da estabilidade térmica, por análise termogravimétrica TGA - DTA, de fibras de piaçava bruta, sem nenhum tipo de tratamento. As análises foram realizadas em duas atmosferas diferentes: oxigênio e nitrogênio. Além disso foram realizadas análises pelo Método de van Soest para determinação dos constituintes da fibra da piaçava: celulose e lignina. Os resultados obtidos revelam que a piaçava contém mais lignina que qualquer outra fibra natural e que as curvas térmicas apresentaram picos característicos para cada constituinte da fibra.

 

Piassava fibers have been investigated as an efficient reinforcement for polymeric matrix composites. The knowledge of the properties of these fibers, especially their thermal stability is a relevant matter to the composite performance. In this work a study on the thermal stability carried out by thermal gravimetric analysis, TGA-DTA, of raw piassava fibers without any type of treatment is presented. The study was also extended to the fibers isolated constituents: cellulose, hemi-cellulose and lignin. The analysis was performed in two different atmospheres: oxygen and nitrogen. The DTA curves showed characteristic peaks. In addition, analyses by van Soest method were conducted to determine the content of each constituent of the piassava fiber. The results revealed that the piassava comprises more than any other natural fiber. The implication of these results are discussed in relation to the behavior of polymeric composites reinforced with piassava fibers.
