Resumo

O presente trabalho buscou avaliar a relação entre o comportamento de redução e as características químicas e morfológicas da carepa, com vistas a sua reciclagem. A caracterização química indicou que a wustita é o constituinte majoritário do resíduo, seguido de menores quantidades de magnetita, hematita e ferro metálico. A carepa em estudo apresenta uma microestrutura complexa com a presença de três fases características: camada externa porosa com alto grau de oxidação, camada intermediaria de wustita densa e camada interna de wustita porosa. As medidas termogravimétricas mostram que em altas temperaturas é possível atingir um elevado grau de redução em um tempo relativamente curto. Em baixas temperaturas as reações de carburação/deposição de carbono perturbam a análise cinética de redução.

 

This work is aimed at evaluating the relationship between the reduction behavior and the chemical and morphological characteristics of mill scale, regarding its recycling possibilities. The chemical characterization indicated that wustite is the major constituent of this waste, with small quantities of magnetite, hematite and metallic iron. This mill scale presents a complex microstructure with three characteristic phases: external layer with high level of oxidation, intermediary layer of dense wustite and internal layer of porous wustite. The thermogravimetric measurements show that at high temperatures it is possible to reach a high reduction level in relatively short time. At low temperatures the carburation/carbon deposition disturbs the analysis of the reduction kinetics.
