Resumo

Em 13 de junho de 2010 a Gerdau Siderperu partiu o novo Forno Elétrico a Arco em sua planta de Chimbote no Peru. O FEA possui uma capacidade de 32 t e foi projetado para substituir dois FEAs existentes de capacidade semelhante, porém com menor produtividade. Este FEA utilizou uma carcaça existente proveniente de outra usina da Gerdau, porém nunca utilizada antes. O novo FEA deveria ser projetado com base nesta carcaça existente para atingir os novos requisitos da usina da Siderperu em termos de matéria prima e produtividade. Tal fato aumentou o nível de complexidade do projeto. Questões adicionais surgiram em função de restrições de layout e da necessidade de se implantar um sistema de adição de ligas totalmente novo. Este trabalho relata as soluções de engenharia adotadas e as conquistas na montagem da equipe, ingredientes fundamentais para o sucesso final do projeto. Pessoas provenientes de sete países diferentes - Brasil, Peru, Uruguai, Chile, Venezuela, Itália e Estados Unidos - participaram do projeto e do comissionamento, e em menos de um mês da partida o FEA estava apto a atingir os seus parâmetros de projeto para produtividade e consumo.

 

On June 13, 2010 Gerdau Siderperú has started-up the new EAF installed in its Chimbote plant in Peru. This EAF has a capacity of 32 metric tons and has been designed to replace two existing EAFs of the same capacity, but with lower productivity. This EAF has reused an existing shell coming from another Gerdau plant, but never used before. The EAF had to be designed around this existing shell to fit with the new characteristics of raw material and productivity of the Siderperú plant. This fact has increased the level of complexity of the project. Additional issues were coming from layout restrictions and the need for the implementation of a complete new Material Handling System. This paper relates about the engineering solutions adopted for the case and the team-building achievements, all ingredients for the successful result of this project. People coming from seven different countries (Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela, Italy and United States) have taken part to the project and the commissioning phase and in less than one month from its start-up the EAF has been capable to reach its design parameters for productivity and consumptions.
