Resumo

As fibras naturais tem despertado um interesse da comunidade científica em várias áreas, inclusive na área de defesa nacional, sendo utilizado na confecção de compósitos de matriz epóxi, em blindagens balísticas. As fibras naturais possuem inúmeras vantagens como o baixo custo e o seu baixo impacto ambiental. Uma das desvantagens no processamento desses compósitos é a natureza hidrofóbica da matriz epoxídica e a natureza hidrofílica das fibras naturais. Um dos mecanismos de absorção da energia cinética do projétil é o descolamento das fibras da matriz, sendo, portanto, necessária uma boa adesão do reforço na matriz. A utilização de surfactantes pode minimizar esse problema da adesão ao formar uma ponte, ligando a matriz hidrofóbica com as fibras hidrofílicas. Neste estudo foi realizado ensaios de tração em amostras, contendo uma porcentagem fixa em 30% de volume em fibras de fique e a porcentagem de surfactante com valores de 0%, 0,5%, 1,5% e 2,5% em volume. Os resultados demonstram um aumento de resistência nas amostras contendo 0,5% de surfactante.

 

The natural fibers have aroused an interest of the scientific community in several areas, including in the area of national defense, being used in the preparation of epoxy matrix composites, in ballistic shields. Natural fibers have many advantages such as low cost and low environmental impact. One of the disadvantages in the processing of these composites is the hydrophobic nature of the epoxy matrix and the hydrophilic nature of the natural fibers. One of the mechanisms of absorption of the kinetic energy of the projectile is the detachment of the fibers of the matrix, therefore, a good adhesion of the reinforcement in the matrix is necessary. The use of surfactants can minimize this adhesion problem by forming a bridge by bonding the hydrophobic matrix to the hydrophilic fibers. In this study, tensile tests were carried out on samples containing a fixed percentage of 30% of the fique fibers and the percentage of surfactant with values of 0%, 0.5%, 1.5% and 2.5% by volume . The results demonstrate increased strength in the samples containing 0.5% surfactant.
