Fine grained, pre - reduced iron ore (DRI/LRI) can be injected into the blast furnace (BF) through the tuyères to increase productivity, reduce the specific coke rate and consequently reduce specific CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the possibility of increasing the flexibility of hot metal production in means of productivity will become more and more important. For example, the coal-based Circofer® process as a fineore reduction process working with a fluidised bed, could supply the Blast Furnace with a fine-grained, pre-reduced material containing carbon, ready for injection. In this study, injection tests were performed using laboratory injection rigs to obtain information on the re-oxidation of the iron containing particles and changes in the micro-structure which give indications on melting and re-oxidation behaviour during injection. Additionally, the conversion behaviour of the carbon containing char particles in DRI/LRI was investigated. Since carbon conversion degrees were low, several ways for increasing were investigated as well.
