Resumo

Foi desenvolvido um modelo matemático para calcular o abatimento da DQO (remoção da matéria orgânica) de emulsões sintéticas óleo-água pelo processo de eletrocoagulação. O modelo envolveu os três fundamentos da eletrocoagulação: eletroquímica, coagulação e flotação. Através da comparação entre os valores experimentais de DQO e aqueles calculados pelo modelo verificou-se que este foi capaz de prever adequadamente as concentrações de matéria orgânica (DQO) presentes nas emulsões e descrever satisfatoriamente o comportamento físico da eletrocoagulação.

 

A mathematical model was developed to evaluate the COD abatement (removal of organic matter) from synthetic oil-water emulsions by the electrocoagulation process. The model involved the three fundaments of electrocoagulation: electrochemistry, coagulation and flotation. By comparing the experimental values of COD with those calculated by the model it was found that the model was able to adequately predict the concentrations of organic matter (COD) present in the emulsions and satisfactorily describe the physical behavior of electrocoagulation.
