Resumo

As propriedades magnéticas (magnetização de saturação e força coerciva) de um aço SAE 4340 foram medidas em um magnetômetro de amostra vibrante, em diversas condições de tratamento. Quatro temperaturas de encharque foram investigadas: 860oC, 960oC, 1060oC e 1160oC. As amostras temperadas em óleo foram revenidas em diversas temperaturas no intervalo de 200oC a 650oC. O aumento da temperatura de têmpera provoca o decréscimo da magnetização de saturação, o que se deve principalmente ao aumento do teor de austenita retida no aço, a qual se transforma em bainita inferior no revenido entre 200oC e 300oC. A força coerciva do aço variou na faixa de 115 Oe a 133 Oe, dependendo da condição de tratamento.

 

Magnetic properties (coercive force and magnetization saturation) of an SAE 4340 steel heat treate by different ways were measured in a vibrating sample magnetometer. Four soaking temperatures were investigated: 860oC, 960oC, 1060oC and 1160oC. The oil quenched samples were tempered at different temperatures in the 200oC to 650oC range. The increase of the tempering temperature promotes the decrease of the magnetization saturation, which is mainly due to the retained austenite in the steel. This austenite transforms into bainite during tempering between 200oC and 300oC. The coercive force of the steel varied from 115 Oe to 133 Oe, depending on the heat treatment condition.
