Resumo

O empeno de tarugos do lingotamento contínuo é especialmente crítico em máquinas com leito do tipo empurrador, devido à diferença na velocidade de resfriamento entre as 4 faces do tarugo. Um tarugo empenado gera, além de problemas de manuseio na área produtiva, dificuldades no enfornamento no forno de reaquecimento da laminação. A metodologia seis sigma foi utilizada para avaliar estatisticamente o comportamento das variáveis envolvidas no problema (tipo de aço, temperatura, velocidade de resfriamento), analisar as causas potenciais do empeno e testar possíveis soluções. Como resultado obteve-se uma redução de mais de 300% no índice de refugo por empeno, além de propiciar um maior controle do processo onde o operador pode atuar de forma preventiva.

 

The billet bending is specially critical in casters with pushing cooling bed, due different cooling rate between four sides of the billet. The bended billet cause handling difficulties and problems during its charging to the heating furnace. The six sigma method was used to evaluate the behaviour of the variables in the case (steel grade, temperature, cooling rate), to analyse potential causes and to test possible solutions. Consistent reduction around 300% in the bending scrapping index was obtained and better preventive control also.
