SIMULATION OF AN AUTOMATION PROJECT IN GERDAU COSIGUA

Resumo

A partir de um projeto desenvolvido por uma consultoria externa para automatização dos transportadores horizontais e verticais de bobinas quentes na Usina Gerdau Cosigua, foi construído um modelo utilizando-se o software de simulação ProModel para: visualizar o comportamento da implantação deste projeto; comparar os resultados previstos neste com os da simulação de diversas alternativas de layout, de velocidade dos transportadores e de número de unidades transportadas; verificar eventuais falhas no projeto de forma visual e numérica. Comparando-se os resultados chegou-se a uma configuração ótima que não a recomendada pela consultoria. Essa diferença foi causada por ser o modelo uma representação dinâmica do projeto, enquanto que a utilização exclusiva de planilhas, que são estáticas, pode levar a conclusões que não necessariamente refletem a realidade. Com base na simulação, foram constatadas algumas imperfeições no projeto original. O mesmo foi modificado a tempo, gerando uma economia de aproximadamente R$ 2,5 milhões. Com a ajuda da ferramenta de simulação, a Gerdau Cosigua pode ter certeza do resultado esperado na implantação do projeto revisto.

 

From a project developed by a external consultant for the hot spool’s horizontal and vertical transporters automatization in the Gerdau Cosigua Plant, a model was constructed using the simulation software ProModel to: visualize the implementation’s behavior of this project; compare the expected results from this with those from the simulation of several alternative layouts, transporters’ velocity and the quantity of transported units; verify eventual failures in the project, both in visual and numerical ways. Comparing the results was possible to find an optimal solution different from that recommended by the consultants. This difference was caused by the fact of the model being a dynamic representation of the project, while the exclusive utilization of sheets, that are static, can lead to conclusion that not necessary reflects a reality. Based on the simulation, some imperfections were found in the original project. The former was modified in time, resulting in an economy of around R$ 2.5 million. With the help of the simulation tool, Gerdau Cosigua could be sure of the expected results in the revised project implementation.
