This work has as main objective, to evaluate the erosion wear in two different materials (4130 steel and commercially pure aluminum), transporting air and sand, in the velocities of 10 m, 15 m and 25 meters per second, through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics Techniques). The geometry was determined by the experimental equipment, Loop, which reproduces in real scale the two-phase flow (liquid with sand particles dispersed). It was used a 90° elbow, from a 4 inches diameter pipe. The numerical simulation was done through Fluent (ANSYS, Inc.) software. RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes Equations) methodology and the k-ω-SST turbulence model, coupled with the discrete phase model were used. The necessary coupling was the two-ways Euler-Lagrange coupling. The erosion model used was the standard from the software, to calculate the material loss due to erosive wear. The key point in this kind of simulation is over restitution coefficient, which varies in function of the material tested. It was possible to observe different behavior between the two materials, by the erosive wearing analysis in the different velocities, which represents the particle momentum variation in different restitution coefficients. It is also possible to predict the pipe lifetime in this operation conditions due to a damage caused by the pure erosive wear.
