The most consumed protein in the world is fish and the production system in cages is already renowned worldwide, with over 150 species being cultivated. Brazil was the 12th global fish producer in 2012 and could become the second largest producer by 2024. This is because Brazil has great conditions for aquaculture: 12% of all the fresh water in the world, dammed surface water and wide availability of cereals for feed formulation. Today one of the main problems is the fouling, which is the closing of the mesh by algae and organisms. The objective of this study was to evaluate the integrity of fish-farming nets in freshwater, seeking a productive fish production system. Were evaluated plasticized galvanized wire mesh, galvanized plasticized with antifouling paint, bezinal wire and stainless 304. These screens were evaluated in the field for a period of 2 years and after its withdrawal were assessed weight and superficial aspect of the nets. The results show that the wire mesh galvanized bezinal showed the highest integrity.
