Resumo

O potencial do cálcio em controlar inclusões de óxidos e sulfetos é de reconhecido interesse no tratamento de aços. A determinação de dados termodinâmicos do sistema Fe-O-Ca possibilita melhor controle das propriedades finais. Entretanto, o baixo ponto de ebulição e a forte afinidade do oxigênio pelo cálcio e outros elementos metálicos, dificultam a obtenção destes dados em elevadas temperaturas. Empregando o método CALPHAD, através do programa THERMO-CALC, foi realizada uma avaliação crítica dos dados termodinâmicos de Ca e O em ferro líquido. As limitações resultantes da pequena quantidade de dados experimentais para o sistema ternário Fe-O-Ca e as possíveis interações causadas por outros elementos são discutidas.

 

The potential of the calcium in controlling inclusions of oxides and sulfides is of recognized interest in the treatment of steels. The determination of thermodynamic data of the Fe-O-Ca system makes possible better control of the final properties. However, the low boiling point and the strong affinity of the oxygen for the calcium and other metallic elements, they hinder the obtaining of these data in high temperatures. Using the CALPHAD method, through the THERMO-CALC program, the thermodynamic data of Fe-O-Ca in liquid iron was critically assessed. The resulting limitations of the small amount of experimental data for the ternary Fe-O-Ca system and the possible interactions caused by other elements are discussed.
