Aceros Arequipa is a steel mill complex located in the city of Pisco, Perú. From 2010, we are recovering organic material (plastics, rubber, wood, etc.) of our scrap shredder wastes to use as alternative fuel in the direct reduction process that use rotary kilns in the production of sponge iron (DRI). The DRI produced is subsequently charged to the electric arc furnace (EAF). In this paper, we present a methodology developed in test with separation/classification of the different constituents of the shredder residue, the briquetting of organic material and, finally, the results of view of point metallurgical and economic for injection of this material in the form of briquettes (power calorific value 4500 kcal/kg), in the rotary kilns partially substituting bituminous coal.
