Abstract
I have been asked to speak about the characteristics of Canadian coals and about the potential for Canadian weak coking coals. While I will briefly discuss the coals from eastern Canada, my main emphasis will be on those from western Canada. However, before addressing these points, I would like to provide a brief overview of the Canadian coal industry, its size, its infrastructure, and its market distribution. Canada's coal resource base is vast and greatly exceeds all anticipated domestic and export requirements. It offers export markets a reliable, high-quality coal supply at competitive prices.
