Resumo

Juntas adesivas têm sido consideradas como potenciais substitutos a juntas mecânicas tradicionais, tais como parafusos, rebites e solda. As juntas adesivas apresentam diversas vantagens a respeito de propriedades, custos, designs e entre outros que estimulam a sua aplicação. Apesar das vantagens consideradas, alguns pontos a relacionados às características superficiais dos materiais a serem unidos tem papel de destaque, entre eles a rugosidade e limpeza da superfície. Desta forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de um simples tratamento superficial no comportamento mecânico das juntas produzidas. A investigação foi conduzida com base na norma ASTM 1002-05. Foi observado que o tratamento superficial resultou em um aumento de quase quatro vezes na carga suportada pela junta, em comparação àquela sem tratamento superficial. Por outro lado, o modo de falha observado para ambas às condições foi a mesma, uma mistura de falha coesiva e adesiva.

 

Adhesive joints have been considered as potential substitutes for traditional mechanical joints, such as screws, rivets, and solder. Adhesive joints have several advantages such as properties, costs, designs and among others that stimulate their application. Despite the advantages considered, some points related to the surface characteristics of the materials to be joined play an important role, among them surface roughness and cleanliness. In this way, the objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of a simple surface treatment on the mechanical behavior of the joints produced. The investigation was conducted in accordance to ASTM 1002-05. It was observed that the surface treatment resulted in an increase of almost four times in the load achieved by the joint when compared to that without the surface treatment. On the other hand, the failure mode observed for both conditions was the same, a mixture of cohesive and adhesive failure.
