Resumo

Dentre as tecnologias existentes, a aplicação de microondas é uma das mais recomendadas na determinação de umidade de minérios a granel. O presente trabalho procura relatar os desenvolvimentos feitos ao longo dos anos de 2009 e 2010 para validação desta tecnologia para a medição da umidade do Sinter Feed Carajás. Os testes foram realizados com analisador de umidade, avaliando um total de 20 amostras sob diferentes condições de umidade (8% - 13%), comparando os resultados com o método convencional de determinação de umidade em laboratório. Para avaliação de precisão e exatidão, os métodos estatísticos utilizados foram satisfatórios. A principal vantagem dos analisadores com este princípio de funcionamento está no fato de que as microondas apresentam a propriedade de penetrar todo o leito de minério sem sofrer atenuação e, dessa forma, fornecer medidas mais representativas.

 

Among existing technologies the application of microwave is one of the most recommended in moisture determination of bulk materials including iron ore. This paper aims to report the developments made over the years 2009 and 2010 for validation of microwave technology for measuring the Carajas’ Sinter Feed moisture. The tests were performed with an analyzer evaluating a total of 20 samples and under different conditions of moisture (8% to13%) comparing the results with the conventional method of moisture determination in laboratory. The statistical methods used for evaluation of precision and accuracy were satisfactory. The main advantage of this type of analyzer is the fact that microwaves have the property of penetrating the entire bed of ore without suffering attenuation and thus provide more representative measures.
