Resumo

Durante alguns meses do ano de 2010 o teor de sílica reativa no minério alimentado na refinaria de alumina da Votorantim Metais/CBA caiu 25%. Esta variação causou uma redução da eficiência do processo de dessilicação. Devido a isso, a incidência de incrustações nos equipamentos e tubulações da refinaria aumentou significativamente, principalmente naqueles que operam com temperaturas elevadas. Além disso, houve uma maior taxa de precipitação de alumina no circuito de espessamento/ lavagem de lama vermelha e filtração de licor. No presente trabalho, mostraremos os estudos realizados e as ações tomadas para entender e solucionar os problemas causados pela perda de eficiência na etapa de dessilicação. Entre estas: a adição de leite de cal e o aumento da temperatura da pasta nos tanques de dessilicação.

 

During some months of 2010 the reactive silica content in the mineral fed in the Alumina Refinery of Metals Votorantim/CBA fell 25%. This variation caused a efficiency reduction of dessilication process. Due to this, the incidence of scales in equipments and piping in Refinery increased a lot, mainly in those which operate at high temperatures. Besides this, there was a larger rate of Alumina precipitation in the circuit of settler/ washer of red mud and liquor filtration. In this current work, we showed the studies carried out and the actions taken to understand and solve the problems caused by loss of efficiency in the dessilication stage. As will as the addition of slaked lime in the dessilication tanks and the liquor stabilizes in the mud washing circuit.
