Resumo

Este trabalho tem como objetivo de estudo o uso da bactéria Rhodococcus opacus, adaptada à presença de substrato mineral, na bioflotação de quartzo e apatita. Sendo usados estudos de potencial zeta, tensão superficial e microflotação. Os estudos eletroforéticos mostraram uma pequena mudança no ponto isoelétrico (PIE) da bactéria após a adaptação. A apatita mostrou uma flotabilidade em torno de 45% num pH 5, usando 0,15 g L-1 de bactéria após 2 min. de flotação. Enquanto que o quartzo alcançou 14%. O uso da bactéria adaptada mostrou um incremento na flotabilidade de ambos minerais. Sendo que a flotabilidade da apatita incrementou quando foi usada a bactéria adaptada à apatita, o mesmo aconteceu com o quartzo, a sua flotabilidade foi incrementada quando foi usada a bactéria adaptada a quartzo.

 

The goal of this work was to study the effect of bacteria adaptation – to the presence of a mineral substrate – in apatite and quartz bioflotation. The zeta potential studies, surface tension measurements and microflotation were used to evaluate the performance of the microorganism. The electrophoretic studies showed a little change in the isoelectric point (IEP) value of the bacteria after the adaptation. At the beginning, the greatest flotability of the apatite achieved 45% at pH around 5, with 0.15 g/L of bacteria after 2 min. of flotation. On contrast, quartz achieved only 14%. Moreover, when the adapted bacteria was use, an improvement in mineral flotability values was observed. The apatite flotability increased when apatite-adapted R. opacus was used, furthermore the same behavior was observed in the case of quartz flotability. This effect was more pronounced in acidic pH range.
