Resumo

Este trabalho apresenta uma análise de falha de prótese femoral fabricada em aço inoxidável, caracterizando e avaliando os aspectos microestruturais da peça extraída de paciente, correlacionando-a com a falha ocorrida. O trabalho experimental consistiu na inspeção visual da amostra, caracterização macroscópica e microscópica da superfície de fratura do material e composição química. O estudo revelou que o implante não estava de acordo com os padrões da ISO, apresentando defeitos de fabricação que acarretou a fratura prematura. Estes implantes, fora das especificações normativas pertinentes, geralmente possuem vida útil reduzida, acarretando transtornos anatômicos aos pacientes e custo adicional ao SUS, devido a novas cirurgias de recolocações de próteses. Assim, a ANVISA, responsável pela regulamentação de produtos para a saúde, está desenvolvendo mecanismos para evitar a comercialização de implantes fora dos padrões normativos adotados internacionalmente. É também objetivo do trabalho descrever aspectos microestruturais relevantes do aço inoxidável para utilização em implantes.

 

This work presents a failure analysis of femoral prosthesis manufactured in stainless steel, characterizing and evaluating the microstructural aspects of prosthesis taken from patient, correlating it with the occurred failure. The experimental work consisted of visual inspection of the sample, macroscopic and microscopic characterization of the failure surface of the material and chemical composition. The study showed that the implant was not in accordance with ISO standards, presenting manufacture defects that caused the premature failure. These implants, not in accordance to the normative specifications, usually have reduced useful life causing anatomical troubles to the patients and additional cost to SUS, caused by these replacements. Thus, ANVISA, responsible for the regulation of products for health is developing mechanisms to prevent the commercialization of implants that are not in accordance to the normative standards adopted internationally. It is also objective of this work to describe microstructural aspects of the stainless steel for use in implants.
