O USO DO SHOT PEENING PARA A MELHORIA DA VIDA EM FADIGA EM AÇO ABNT1060: THE USE OF SHOT PEENING TO IMPROVING LIFE IN FATIGUE IN STEEL ABNT 1060

O trabalho foi estruturado visando demonstrar os benefícios que são obtidos com a utilização da técnica shot peening em componentes mecânicos no que diz respeito à vida em fadiga. O material estudado foi um aço ABNT 1060 (similar ao SAE J403 1060), na condição de trefilado e posteriormente laminado. O shot peening gera tensões residuais compressivas na superfície do material, melhorando o desempenho em fadiga do componente inclusive em ambientes agressivos, onde o material está sujeito a corrosão-sob-tensão e corrosão-fadiga. Foram feitas análises de tensões residuais, levantadas curvas de fadiga e efetuadas análises da fratura em duas condições: antes e depois do shot peening. Os resultados apontaram uma melhoria significativa no desempenho em fadiga associado às tensões residuais compressivas decorrentes do processo de shot peening.

The work was structured aiming at demonstrating the benefits that are obtained with the use of the shot peening technique in mechanical components regarding fatigue life. The studied material was ABNT 1060 steel ( similar SAE J403 1060 steel), on cold worked condition (draw and rolling). The shot peening generates compressive residual stresses on the surface of the material, which improves the fatigue performance of the component, and also in aggressive environments, where the material is subject to corrosion-under-stress-corrosion and corrosion-fatigue. Analysis of residual stresses were conducted as well as fatigue curves and fracture analysis of two conditions: before and after the shot peening. The results indicated a significant improvement in performance in fatigue associated with compressives residual stresses associated with the process of shot peening.
