To compare roll profile (shape) and crown magnitude readings between the roll shop and the mill, the entire roll face must be considered. Originally the contour of the ends of the roll face was thought to be relatively unimportant, because they didn't actually contact the strip. This area now appears to be more important than the crown in determining several parameters. The impact of roll end(s) measurements and methods of implementation are addressed.
