The change in physical and mechanical properties of fireclay bricks incorporating different types of wastes from a single industry has been studied. The wastes had distinct characteristics and were added in different amounts to clay before sintering at 750 °C. Through the measurements of the density, the specific heat, the thermal conductivity, and the compressive strength, the changes resulting from the waste additions were evaluated. The results showed significant modifications in the properties for up to 50% of waste addition. These results are discussed in terms of the effect of incorporation of residues into the ceramic structure as well as the possible mechanisms responsible for the changes in the properties.
