In this work, a study has been made of the effect of the microstructure on the mechanical properties of two commercial-aircraft quality, 300 M and 4340, steels which has been isothermally transformed in two bainitic temperature regions (320 and 370 °C) and one intercritical temperature (760 °C) after austenitization at 900 °C. The results were compared between two kind of steels (4340 and 300 M) and were compared with each different heat treatment applied. Isothermal transformation on the steel, with various temperature and maintenance time, produces multiphase microstructures with different amount of bainite, martensite, ferrite and retained austenite. These compositions are related with the strength and toughness of the steels.
