Resumo

Actually it is normal the utilization of thermo chemical treatment to improve the superficial properties of a metallic material. The objective of this work is to compare the properties of aluminum 6063 treated thermo chemically in relation to an alternative treatment as the mecano-chemical treatment. The advantage of this last treatment is not to add a material to the substratum, because the hardened material with the mecano-chemical treatment has not the adherence problem founded in hardened layer by thermo chemical treatment. The process has been carried out in 5 samples with the following dimensions: 35 x 100 x 8 mm. It has been utilized a vibrator machine with different abrasive charge in each stage of the process. To study the kinetics of the process it has been withdrawn a sample for each stage of the process. Micro hardness, MEB and Ray X diffraction studies have been carried out, to establish the comparison between both methods. Higher hardness values have been founded in the material treated thermo-chemically, but the difference is in the cases which it is not possible to use that method. It is important to emphasize the pertinent application of the hardened materials by mecano-chemical treatment.
