Coolants for In-Line Galvanize Temper Mills

Resumo

The use of galvanized steel for automotive applications presents increased requirements for sheet flatness and surface quality. To meet these higher levels of quality, temper rolling of the sheet is necessary using in-line temper mills. Zinc pickup is a problem encountered in rolling galvanized product. Water or dry brushing had been used in the past to address the problem with some success. The use of a temper mill coolant designed for in-line skinpass mills significantly reduces the pickup problem. Unscheduled roll changes are reduced by 40% compared to rolling with water. The residue on the sheet surface is reduced by 300%, reducing debris problems in further processing steps. The coolant is compatible with all chromate treatments and with all subsequent phosphating and E-Coating processes.
