Resumo

In obtaining the maximum campaign life out of a blast furnace, engineers and iron makers have the choice of different lining designs. Selecting plate coolers or staves or a combination of the two for cooling of the lining. The lining may consist of refractory or, in case of copper staves, can be limited to a blow-in lining only. The major gain of installing staves is the increase of volume of the furnace, so production. In this paper we will discuss two subjects will be discussed, the behaviour of the lining systems which use plate coolers and high conductive refractory lining and the development of a new type of copper stave, both systems designed by Danieli-Corus (Hoogovens).
