The effect of alternative resistance spot welding cycles on electrogalvanized 1000 MPa tensile strength Transformation-Induced Plasticity steel (TRIP1000 EG) was evaluated with the aim of improving the mechanical performance of joints for automotive applications. Doubleand triple-current pulse welding conditions were employed, varying the current intensity and application time. Joint strength was determined by cross-tension and shear tests and compared with the standardized condition established by ISO 18278-2:2016. An increase of up to 13% in maximum load was observed with the double-pulse condition and up to 33% with the triple-pulse condition, with an estimated toughness increase of approximately 60% and 120%, respectively. These gains were attributed to the larger weld nugget diameter and, mainly, to the partial reaustenitization of the weld nugget. The results indicate that the use of double or triple pulses is a promising strategy for increasing the strength of welded components manufactured from TRIP1000 EG steel in the automotive industry.
