Resumo
The methods for the reduction of metallic ion content of the effluent from electroplating plants are examined. The objectives of the study were to reduce the quantity of water discharged, to meet increasingly strict environmental standards, and to demonstrate the technical and economic benefits of chromium (VI) recovery. A pilot plant demonstration system is described that combines evaporative recovery and ion exchange. It is suitable for small or medium sized electroplating plants and is of low cost design. The initial results are promising and more extensive industrial testing is proposed.
