The extraction of rare earth elements Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Y, and Er from an industrial hydrochloric liquor was evaluated using solvent extraction with the extractants P507 (30% v/v), Cyanex 572 (30% v/v), and a mixture of P507 (7.5% v/v) + Cyanex 572 (22.5% v/v) at an equilibrium pH of 0.66 (25°C and unitary O/A ratio). The objective was to identify the organic system capable of separating Sm, Eu, and Gd from Tb, Dy, Ho, Y, and Er under the aforementioned operating conditions. The highest extractions of Tb, Dy, Ho, Y, and Er, and a high Tb/Gd separation factor (11.29) were achieved with P507 (30% v/v), making it a good option for this purpose. Additionally, the separation of Tb, Dy, Ho, Y, and Er in synthetic hydrochloric liquor was analyzed using a mixture of P507 (15% v/v) + D2EHPA (15% v/v) under different acidity conditions. At an equilibrium pH of 0.03, the separation factors of Dy, Ho, Er, and Y over Tb ranged from 37 to 54, suggesting that the extractant mixture has the potential to separate Dy, Ho, Er, and Y from Tb, and a magnetic rare earth element could be obtained in the raffinate solution.
