Resumo

Blow end control technique of BOF for carbon and temperature has been remarkably improved by sublance equipment and dynamic control system. However, it is necessary to exploit slag formation control technique to obtain over 90% hitting ratio at end point carbon and temperature and to control of end point phosphorus content. Noticing the strong correlation between lance vibration and slag formation during blowing, Mizushima Works (Kawasaki Steel) developed a fully automatic blowing technique that continuously detects slag foaming height. This led to improvements in hitting rate, yield, and furnace life for both top and bottom blowing converter operations.
