The aim of this work was to treat a manganese sulfate solution obtained from the sulfuric acid leaching of Mina do Azul manganese ore (Brazil) for copper, nickel and iron removal by solvent extraction using Cyanex 302® diluted with Exxsol D-100®. The results for one stage extraction were 98% Zn, 92% Ni and 77% Fe, with more than 95% of manganese remaining in solution. The experimental conditions for maximum impurity extraction and minimum manganese extraction were 6.0% v/v Cyanex 302® in the organic phase, 3 minutes of contacting between phases and an organic/aqueous phases ratio of 5.5. Under these conditions, the results obtained were 3.7% manganese extraction, 77.1% iron, 89.7% zinc and 31.3% nickel extraction.
