Resumo

Forty nine years ago, in November 1952, the first BOF vessel was taken in operation at Linz / Austria. In the following years the process was extensively developed and adjusted to local conditions of production. The new and tougher demands that customer sets on steel producers regarding steel quality, requires improved process-control and better understanding of the technology. The BloCon automation system, developed by SMS Demag, is one of such tools, which improve and control the converter process with high performance. The system consists a static charge calculation model as well as a dynamic model of process up date via an in blow intermediate measuring, blowing end determination via waste gas analyze, slag slopping determination via sound measuring, dynamic lance distance control and dynamic adaptation of the process history for a recursive update of process parameter. Alloy calculation accuracy is improved by a dynamic deoxidization and alloying model which perform timely reaction courses between metal and slag. The system has proved to meat the demands for accurate carbon prediction as well as for high availability and low service needs. This paper presents the system structure and some performance results and refers ways to further process development on base of a complex automation.
