To achieve a high rate injection of pulverized coal into a blast furnace, it is important to improve the coal combustibility, the raw materials’ properties and the in-furnace permeability. From this point of view, the following advanced technologies have been adopted by NKK Fukuyama No.3 blast furnace: the development of a new injection lance; the use of low SiO2 sinter; and the burden distribution control. On the basis of the above developments, a monthly average pulverized coal injection rate of 266 kg/t was successfully achieved in June 1998. Furthermore, a monthly average PCR 210 kg/t was achieved at Fukuyama blast furnaces (No.2,3,4,5BF) in June 2001.
