Ferritic Fe22Cr5Al alloys are intended for industrial use at high temperature, especially due to the formation of a thin protective alumina layer. Additions of rare earth elements can improve alumina adherence. However, the main factors controlling surface protection are not yet fully understood. The stress state in the growing oxide film, particularly concerning the microstructural evolution of the outer oxidized zone, is still unclear. This study aims to explore the stresses induced during high-temperature oxidation of the ferritic alloy, especially in the 900–1000 °C range, through experimental techniques such as deflection tests and X-ray diffraction.
