Resumo

In the paper two own original ways for metal flow control within deformation zone during direct extrusion are presented. Regulation of metal flow in the first one takes place by application of a mandrel situated at a proper distance of a die. In the second technique the metal flow control is realized using so-called convex dies of appropriate design. The effectiveness of suggested methods was examined in the laboratory and industrial trials. In the industrial trials aluminium alloy AA 2017 was extruded using hydraulic presses of 12.5 and 25 MN capacity. The results, concerning the influence of extrusion mode on the product structure, maximum permissible exit speed and extrusion force, were compared with those for traditional direct extrusion.
