Resumo

This piece of work presents the development of a method to estimate the degree of size degradation on a charge of hematite iron ore between beneficiation plant and blast furnace stockhouse. The method is based on a size distribution mathematical model and the impact of falls and tumbler treatment on the distribution parameters. To perform the necessary mechanical treatment ISO standardized apparatus were used with adjustments on tests parameters such as fall height and number of drum revolutions. Alongside size degradation the method also provides a estimation of chemical and mineralogical segregation assessment for each sample of ore. Those observations are useful to design transport systems and mining strategies.
