In this paper the following technologies for the rolling of long products are described: > Inline Thermal Treatment Technology End-users are demanding more and more precise material structural and metallurgical features of the as-rolled material. VAI POMINI has developed in-line temperature control system Pomini Quenching System (PQS) capable to control bar/coil temperature along the process, thus assuring specified grain sizes and metallurgical structures. Beside the technological know-how for material cooling and tempering requirements, > EBROS Billet Welding System The Endless Bar ROlling System called EBROS, where VAI POMINI is the licensee of NKK, is a system for welding together subsequent billets in the hot state im a bar or a wire rod mill line to produce an endless rolling process. The welding machine using the flash welding method is situated in the rolling line typically after the reheating furnace and ahead of stand 1 of the rolling mill, although other arrangernents are possible alço. Advantages of flash welding are the high quality of the welded joint and high speed and efficiency of the welding. EBROS has a short cycle time which is well within most mil production cycles and deburring is provided at the welded joint so there are no defects
