Resumo

The mixing process facilitates the pelletizing of iron ores and, by the homogeneity obtained in mixing, it has a predominant influence on the pellet properties. For preparing sinter mixes usually so-called mixing drums are used. These very reliable machines definitely need, however, to develop their potentials for improving the homogeneity of the mix. In modern integrated steel works the produced waste is fed back to the material cycle. There are several ways and processes available on the market for remelting these substances. What all methods have in common, is a sophisticated mixing process to bring these substances with their widely differing properties together, and enable their successful processing. An introduction to the theory of mixing and the most commonly used mixer types is given. Special emphasis is placed on the characteristics of the Counterflow Intensive Mixer and its advantages for the steel industry.
